With due respect to Dr. Agrawal and his Sincerity, we should not encourage anybody to take such a drastic step and pursuade Dr. Agrawal also to reconsider his decision in the interest of Save Ganga Movement itself.
The Government and the NGOs in particular must clarify openly their stand once for all whether they endorse this method as legitimate method in our democratic system. In absence of this, the responsibility of life of Dr. Agrawal will directly lie on the supporters who ask him to continue the fast.
In no case, sacrifice of passionate person should be used for political gains or even to strengthen a just cause.
In my opinion, 'fast' is only a tactical method adopted by individual for drawing attention of the government and people to the just demands and expressing displeasure or opposition to the government decisions. I feel, Dr. Agrawal has succeded in that objective and has gathered a wide support from all over the world. Now he should change his strategy and concentrate on the technical and legal fight and expose the hidden and ignored intangible cost aspects of the dams on Ganga river.
