 Writing a Blog -  Yes, You Can Write 

  It is a general feeling that writing an blog is a difficult task and requires special skill and command over language. Hence, we leave the job to those who write regularly and take pleasure in reading whatever they have written. Even if we disagree with the opinion of author, we express our opinion orally to our friends, but do not attempt to write our impressions, leave apart describing our own ideas and thoughts.

Why this apathy about writing? If asked about it or prompted by somebody to write, we put our excuses like non availability of time or resources. In reality, we are afraid of writing and feel that people will realize our inability of writing or drawbacks in writing style.

There are many psychological hurdles in writing, which prevents majority of people to refrain from writing. Even if one decides to write questions prop up What to write ? and How to write? The best answers I can give to remove these hurdles is Anything and Anyway. Yes, you read it correctly. Write anything and in anyway as you like. Atleast till the time you master the art of writing and train your brain accordingly.

While talking we never ask the questions what to talk and how to talk, but while writing it becomes a formidable task. Why not write whatever you want to talk? Suddenly you become cautious and writing gets obstructed by reasoning.

I have read an effective solution to overcome this hurdle. Just follow the steps as described.

Once you decide to write take paper and pen. Make good writing arrangement. Close the room door not to get disturbed by anybody. Hold the pen in hand. Select left top corner and there you go ! Start writing continuously for ten full minutes. Never stop for a moment in between or otherwise you will be stuck at that point. Our cautious mind would not allow to continue writing. It would start revising, finding errors and alternatives and get completely confused and engrossed with a result of inaction.

While speaking our thoughts are expressed neatly in the language and that flow of thoughts is so rapid that our conscious mind doesn’t get chance to interfere. We can record our speech and write it down later. You will find that quite smooth and consistent.

Next step is to write meaningful and to the point. Once you have overcome the hurdle of writing we can move to ‘What to write?’.

You can practice writing initially just by copying written or printed material. Mere reading is not enough. Writing gives a new experience of words and their arrangement in sentences. You can write well known information about yourself, your liking or place you visited in full sentences. In school days, we have often written essays or created stories from points or broken sentences. Same trick can be applied to write on our focused subject.
Leaned people advocate proper planning followed by systematic writing. However, in my opinion, human mind does not like bounded channels for thought expression. Hence, preferred way is to write whatever you feel and know, in any manner, without any order or restriction. It is very easy to sort it out and rearrange in proper order for final draft.

I remember an episode narrated to me by retired chief engineer Shri. V. H. Kelkar. He told me that they were to prepare and submit regional development plan for Sangli District. In the preamble of report submitted they had written “ But for a lack of sufficient time, the report has become so large. It would have been possible to make it concise if more time and resources were at hand.” Meaning is simple. Making the writing concise and to the point requires more time and thinking.

Now about good writing style. Mere description of places and events do not create the necessary visual impression in the mind of readers. Hence, it is necessary to provide background information, your feelings, thoughts and reflections. While describing events, do not write only the text of speech but give it personality touch as regards his habits, his look and tone of speech. You can add description of the place and surrounding of conversation to paint the scene. It is necessary to mention some minor events and guest appearances of people in the scene , sounds and sensory perceptions even though they may not have further links or aid story flow. In actual experience of event we observe many such things which are not related but that is reality. The same effect has to be achieved by describing event such that reader will be able to visualize the event more effectively. The description should not be mere replica of the event in totality but should be blended with authors feelings and impressions. If you can succeed in this, you would become best writer, no matter, what language you use, style you adopt or words you use.

Finally, you should have a burning desire to tell something to readers or express your opinion or feelings. Writing shall give you a permanent ownership to your thought and creation. With internet, it shall go world over and shall remain accessible to everybody for all time to come.

Tributes to late Dr A. W. Deshpande - a pioneer in Fuzzy Logic

Last week, I had contacted Shri Avinash Sangamnerkar, Walchand Past Student ( 1987 batch) in connection with our plan to start Nagpur branch of Dnyandeep Infotech. When I told him that Dr. N. S. Raman, Dy. Director of NEERI has joined us as director, he informed me about the sad demise of his relative, Dr. Ashok W. Deshpande, Retired Dy. Director of NEERI, Nagpur. 

आमचे मामा (माझा अशोकमामाच) डॉ अशोक वासुदेवराव (A W) देशपांडे यांचे २० मे ला अल्पशा आजारानंतर नागपूरला दुःखद निधन झाले. अगदी अखेरपर्यंत सतत कार्यरत असलेले साक्षात कर्मयोगी व्यक्तिमत्व.त्यावेळी श्री ह्रदयनाथ मंगेशकरांनी मांडलेले आणि माझ्या मनांत खोलवर रुतलेले विचार सहजच आठवले,डोळे पाणावले....आणि श्रीमद्भगवद्गीतेतील अर्जुनाच्या मनातील भगवंताबद्दल भाव व्यक्त करणारा श्लोक मी गुणगुणायला लागलो...

I was shocked.  I knew him personnaly as he was instrumental in giving Post Graduate Recognition for Environmental Engg. Courses in Walchand College of Engineering. I had no contact with him for last few years and felt very sorry for missing him.

He was  pioneer in development of Fuzzy logic for solving complex multivariate problems not only in Environmental Engineering, but all national and global problems in various fields. 

Prof. Deshpande had a passion and mission to propagate the use of fuzzy logic nationally and internationally. All his doctoral students worked only on fuzzy logic related topics.

Few  years back, I had an occasion to attend  his lecture on Fuzzy logic in our college, where he explained the power of fuzzy logic in decision making when the opinions of many medical experts about the cause of heart attack based on analysis reports vary widely. He gave the example of 24 doctors in Pune giving different dignosis reports on the same test results.  The judgement of each expert is influenced by personal experience of such cases and it is possible to get correct  diagnosis with maximum probability, if fuzzy logic is used for accommodating all opinions with varying impressions.

Dr. Deshpande had over four decades of research and development experience and published 140 research papers.  He was the founding chair of Berkeley Initiative in Soft Computing (BISC)-Special Interest Group (SIG)-Environment Management Systems (EMS). 

He was visiting/guest/adjunct professor at

• College of Engineering (COEP) Pune. 
• University of Canberra, Australia
• University of British Columbia (Kelwona Unit), Canada
• Essen University, Germany
• University of California, Berkeley, USA, 
• NIT Silchar
  

In the past, Dr. Deshpande was WHO Adviser, Commonwealth Science Council Resource Scientist, World Bank Project Director for the studies on Probabilistic Risk Assessment for Chemical Process industry; also assisted Danish International Development Authority (DANIDA) as a Project Advisor.

He  delivered many invited talks in various universities including University of Maryland, Harvard University, Hope University, University of Aberdeen, University of Newcastle, University of New South Wales, Essen University, Notre Dame University, Tijuana University to name a few.

He has created a ideal role model for environmental engineers to do  research using latest techniques of computing and use the knowledge so gained for solution to problems in other fields and also lead the movement of training and new applications.  

I appeal to all my students of Environmental engineering and our Dnyandeep team to follow his path of constant dedicated work and efforts to disseminate knowledge to the society. 

This will be the real tribute to the great service rendered by late Dr. Deshpande in use of computing skills in engineering and social disciplines.

आत्मनिर्भर भारतासाठी स्वातंत्र्यलढ्यासारखेच समर्पण आवश्यक

 कोरोनाच्या विश्वव्यापी संकटात सारे देश होरपळून निघाले आहेत. भारताची अर्थव्यवस्था ढासळली असून बेरोजगारीचे मोठे संकट देशापुढे उङे ठाकले आहे. अशावेळी प्रगत राष्ट्रातील मोठ्या धनाढ्य कंपन्यांची नजर भारतातील प्रचंड ग्राहक संख्येकडे आकर्षित झाली असून त्यांनी आपले हातपाय पसरवण्यास सुरुवात केली आहे.

शासनासही नाईलाजाने का होईना अशा गुंतवणुकीचे स्वागत करावे लागत आहे. स्वदेशीचा अट्टाहास मागे पडला आहे. परकीय गुंतवणुकीमुळे येथील अर्थव्यवस्थेला चालना मिळत असली तरी त्यामार्गाने येथील पैसाही बाहेर जाण्याचा मार्ग मोकळा होतो हे लक्षात घेतले पाहिजे.

 गुगल, मायक्रोसॉफ्ट, झूम, आयबीएम, इंटेल यासारख्या कंपन्यांनी ऑनलाईन सुविधांद्वारे आपल्या शिक्षण क्षेत्राचा ताबा घेतला असून आता परकीय विद्यापीठांनाही भारतात प्रवेश देण्याचा शासनाने निर्णय घेतला आहे. वस्तुतः परदेशातील विद्यापिठात शिकविणारे आणि शिकणारे बहुतेक दोन्हीही भारत व चीनमधलेच असतात.   आंतरराष्ट्रीय मान्यतेच्या अशा संस्था भारतात आल्या तर येथील संस्थांना त्याची झळ पोहोचणारच आहे.

भारतात आयटी क्षेत्राने आत्तापर्यंत परकीय  चलन मिळवून दिले असले तरी  येथील बौद्धिक संपदा बहुराष्ट्रीय कंपन्यांच्या विकासासाठीच वापरली गेली आणि भारतीय उद्योगांसाठी त्याचा लाभ झाला नाही. ही वस्तुस्थिती आहे. 

भारतात अनेक भाषा बोलल्या जातात. नवयुवकांना इंग्रजी येत असले तरी बहुतेक सर्वसामान्य जनता आपल्या स्थानिक भाषेतच सर्व व्यवहार करतात. त्यांच्यापर्यंत माहिती तंत्रज्ञानाचे शिक्षण पोहोचविण्यासाठी आपण काहीच प्रयत्न केले नाहीत. साहजिकच इंग्रजीचा वरचष्मा आयटी क्षेत्रावर अबाधित राहिला. पर्यायाने शासनदरबारी, शिक्षण क्षेत्रात आणि उच्च तंत्रज्ञानात इंग्रजीस पर्याय राहिला नाही. याचा मुख्य फायदा बहुराष्ट्रीय कंपन्यांनी घेतला. मोठ्या पगाराचे आमिष दाखवून बुद्धीमान तरुणांना आपल्या सैन्यात समाविष्ट करून घेतले आणि भारतात सर्व क्षेत्रात आपली पकड मजबूत केली.

अशा मोठ्या कंपनीत मानाची व आर्थिक लाभाची नोकरी मिळविणे हेच आता येथील तरुणांपुढे एकमेव ध्येय बनले आहे. आयटी तंत्रज्ञानात, मुख्यत्वे आयओटी आणि कृत्रिम बुद्धिमत्ता क्षेत्रात  झालेल्या  प्रगतीमुळे, अशा नोक-या मिळण्याच्या संधीही दिवसेंदिवस झपाट्याने कमी होत आहेत. याचवेळी बेरोजगारीत प्रचंड प्रमाणात वाढ होत आहे.

बहुराष्ट्रीय कंपन्या आपल्या ऑनलाईन जाहिराती व वितरण व्यवस्थेमार्फत देशातील सर्व व्यापार हळूहळू आपल्या हातात घेण्याची शक्यता आहे. भारतीय बॅंका अशा कंपन्यांना हवे तेवढे कर्ज देण्यास पुढे येतात. मात्र छोट्या उद्योगांना कर्ज देताना टाळाटाळ करतात. कर्ज काढून उद्योग नव्याने उभा करणे भारतात अतिशय अवघड गोष्ट आहे कारण येथील व्याजदर १० ते १५ टक्के एवढे जास्त आहेत. उद्योगाला होणारा फायदा क्वचितच १५ टक्क्यांपेक्षा जास्त असतो.   हे असेच चालू राहिले तर छोटे उद्योग बंद पडून देश या कंपन्यांच्या आर्थिक गुलामगिरीत लोटला जाईल अशी भीती वाटते.

शासनाने उद्योगवाढीसाठी अनेक योजना आखल्या असल्या तरी त्याचा फायदा फक्त अगदी थोडे आर्थिक दृष्ट्या सधन वर्गातील तरूण घेऊ शकतात. त्यांनाही अनुभव नसल्याने ब-याच अडचणींना तोंड द्यावे लागते. आपल्या समाजात उद्योजकाकडे बघण्याची दृष्टीदेखील  संशयी असते. शासकीय अधिका-यांची मदत न होता त्यांनाच खूष करावे लागते.

बेरोजगारी जर अशीच वाढत गेली तर त्याची परिणती लुटालूट व हिंसक दंगलीत होऊ शकते. राजकीय पक्ष आपल्या फायद्यासाठी अशा दंगलींना मदत करण्याच्याही घटना घडतात. यामध्ये सार्वजनिक मालमत्तेचे नुकसान आणि गुन्ह्यांचे प्रमाण वाढते.

यावर उपाय म्हणजे सधन, ज्येष्ठ आणि पेन्शन मिळणा-या  निवृत्त व्यक्तींनी बेरोजगार युवकांना हाताशी धरून छोटा उद्योग सुरू करणे. त्यात त्यांच्या अनुभवाचा व आर्थिक मदतीचा फायदा नवतरुणांना मिळेल. त्यांनी तयार केलेल्या वस्तू वा देऊ करीत असलेल्या सेवांना ग्राहक मिळणेही सोपे जाईल. आणि एक छोटा नवा उद्योग जन्माला येईल. नवीन रोपाला किंवा नवजात बालकाला ज्याप्रमाणे आधाराची व मायेची घरज असते त्याप्रमाणे उद्योगालाही या वृद्ध अनुभवी व्यक्तींचे मार्गदर्शन आणि अर्थ साहाय्य मिळाले तर  नवी अर्थक्रांती होईल व आत्मनिर्भर भारताचे स्वप्न साकार होईल.

निवृत्त व्यक्ती आपले पैसे बॅंकेत, फिक्स्ड डिपॉझिट वा शेअरमध्ये गुंतवतो. सध्याची आर्थिक परिस्थिती पहाता यातही मोठा तोटा होण्याची वा पैपे बुडण्याची भीती राहते. यापेक्षा आपल्या ज्ञानाच्या व अनुभवाच्या जोरावर नवयुवकाला मदत केली तर फायद्याची अधिक शक्यता आहे. शिवाय आजारीपणात मदत, मान आणि अपल्या अनुभवाचा कोणाला तरी फायदा झाल्याचे समाधान यांचाही लाभ होतो.

आपणही निदान एका बेरोजगार य़ुवकाला  उद्योग सुरू करण्यास प्रोत्साहन, मार्गदर्शन आणि आर्थिक साहाय्य द्यावे व उद्याच्या समृद्ध आत्मनिर्भर भारताच्या उभारणीत सहभागी व्हावे असे मला वाटते.

Dnyandeep's appeal to Seniors to invest in Youth

 The corona lockout has stopped the economic growth of the world. In India, the unemployment problem has sky rocketed due to closure of industries and restrictions on travel. This may lead to anarchy and violent protests unless all work relentlessly and collectively to counter this impact on our economy and progress.

There is a more responsibility on seniors and retired people to come forward and support young youth to start business and earn livelihood. Investing in shares and bank deposits is not going to help in near future, as the economy is moving on downward path and chances are that you will loose money.

Instead if the seniors invest their money and employ the young workforce and guide them to build business, it will be benificial to both. You can build a sustainable small business in your field of expertise and knowledge and can find customers easily due to you contacts in local community.

In India, foreign MNCs are entering with huge funds and wish to capture Indian customers. In education field, they have made inroads and already established supremacy in online education.

It is possible that India will face intellectual slavery if we sell our intellect and experience to  further the interests of these MNCs.

On the other hand if professionals, small businesses come together and build a sustainable growth model, we can proect ourselves and move towards Atmanirbhar Bharat.

It is not possible for government to give jobs to all or provide help to start industries to youth without any financial backup and industrial experience oe ability to take financial risk. Our interest rates are very high and new industry and business cannot sustain that load when the profits seldom exceed 15 percent.  Only seniors can take such risk, as any way, they are taking risk in putting money in banks.

Dnyandeep Foundation has decided to motivate such start-ups having combination of senior-juniors and shall provide all necessary help in digital marketing and online training.

For IT sector, Dnyandeep Foundation can give portfolio of work to start with to members who can start free lance work and work through Dnyandeep Foundation, till they come out of initial hurdles and then can start on their own.

At personal level, I have decided to invest my money in this endevor and I am sure many young students will take advantage of this scheme.

Why Dnyandeep uses Joomla CMS for Website Design

Joomla is an open source comprehensive content management system well suited for large websites. Dnyandeep Infotech adopted it since its beginning in 2005 for developing most of the client and in house websites because of its very distinguishing features.

Salient features

1. It is an Open Source software supported by a large community of developers around the world. All files are viewable and anybody can edit, change or add new files and functionalities.

2. Joomla technology is evolving continuously since its inception in 2005 and has different version as from Joomla 1.0 to currently 3.9

.

 

3. It has a well organised structure. 

Front end for viewers and back end for administration.  

There are four main groups ie. Modules, Plugins, Components and Templates which constitute File structure.  

The Files, Folders are grouped systematically with proper names with descriptive xml file for each folder.

4. The design is based on MVC - Model-View Controller framework with full object oriented coding approach. 

5. Content and program files are separate and stored at different locations. Content is stored in separate dynamic database. 

6. There are many  security features which prevent hacking or malicious code entry in the system.

a. The entire site is run essentially only through one file index.php from front end.
The first line in this file contains   define('_JEXEC', 1); whereas all other program php files have first line as defined('_JEXEC') or die; to check whether the file is outcome of index.php or not.

b. Every folder contains a blank index.html to prevent display of inner contents of the folder even if url of folder is used directly to view details.

c. Sanitisation of form input -  any input from user is first disarmed by removing tags to prevent entry of any virus or malicious javascript code. Form input from users is passed through jimport function which ensures that no html tags, .. or any code defining  words contain in the accepted code.

7. Facility to extend the features by adding and integrating all display and functional features. Use of any language or set of languages on same site is possible.

8. Installation of website, its database and the extensions is very easy.

9. Upgradation of site to new version is easy.

10. With the help of available Joomla extensions and templates, website of any requirement or specific purpose can be built.

11. The website can be made device friendly with responsive design layout and hence can adjust the screen size and rearrange the elements and layout as per the device size.

12. The website can be made SEO compliant  with readable URL.

शिक्षण, समाज व राजकारणाला नवी दिशा देणारे अटलजी आज आपल्यात नाहीत. मात्र त्यांनी आपल्या वरील काव्यातून पुन्हा दीप प्रज्वलित करण्याचा  संदेश शिरोधार्य मानून आपण अटल इनोव्हेशन मिशनच्या कार्यात आपले तन, मन,धन  समर्पण करू या.

डिप्लोमा व पदवीस्तरावरील इंजिनिअरिंग अभ्यासक्रमातही या विषयाच्या  थिअरीवर जास्त भर दिला जात असून प्रत्यक्ष स्वतंत्र उपकरण तयार करण्याचे कौशल्य त्यांच्यात निर्माण व्हावे या दृष्टीने फारसे प्रयत्न केले जात नाहीत.साहजिकच इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स हा विषय फक्त अभ्यासाचा विषय ठरतो.

आज नक्की कोणता वार हेही विसरले जाते कारण सर्वच दिवस सुट्ठीचे झाले असल्याने कॅलेंडरवर खुणा करूनच दिवसांची मोजदाद करावी लागते.

The websites of educational institutes in India, generally include typical information like history, departments, faculty, admission procedures and a picture gallery. However, these websites can neither serve the student community as regards their day to day functioning nor can provide effective control for the management over teaching-learning process.

The brochure type websites give cursory information to new students and they can be highly impressed by the education system being implemented by the college, if the web site is equipped with modern web service tools and high interactivity.

However, very often these do not include map-linked information about the institute. Such facility is generally provided in websites of foreign universities. Infrastructural facilities like main office building, classrooms, hostels, playground and other amenities also should be shown on map with context sensitive information. Proctor system is essential for all institutes where students from different places take admissions. In this system, teachers are allotted a group of students for whom they will act as local guardians from the time student gets admitted to the time the student passes the final examination in the institute.
