Inverted Teaching - Learning Process - Flipped Classroom

Our age old method of spoon feeding used in traditional classrooms is not applicable in future education as the student is prime mover.

Fortunately for me, this was the method adopted by my gifted teacher Shri. Kelkar in the school, while teaching science. He used to come with a problem and show himself to be ignorant and ask students to help him. Students will give some clues, discuss within themselves, come with some explanation. If no answer is found, he used to keep the challenge for next class.

We used to search, ask and try to find the answer before going to next class with intention to become first to give correct answer. The entire class thus used to get involved in the process of active learning and we got benefited immensely by his novel method of learning from students. Many times, he had to explain the phenomena or give solution in detail afterwards, as we were not having any resources of getting information as they are available to anybody. His explanation used to get maximum attention by all students with high degree of success.

In the new scenario of easy accessibility to information on net, the teachers have to become students, solve a problem and put before students to choose what they want to learn.

Student has to search or develop the answer that matches with teacher's answer and explain how he has arrived at the solution.

Let us take a very simple primitive example of addition at kid's level. Teacher would write 5+3=8. No clues should be suggested by teacher.

Child has to find out how 5+3 would be 8. For getting this answer, it has to imagine some objects like fruits, flowers or coins and explain how it gives the correct answer.

This process will teach the child lot more about addition while doing trials and would be able to put new puzzle for teacher to solve.

This may seem to be not workable for primary school. But for high school and college level, this simple example may be extended to a complex problem of emptying of water tank with tap having some rate of discharge, or some design problem, where the teacher gives answer and student has to evolve method of arriving at the solution.

Student can be given liberty to use any coding language or manual working. After all what we are interested is to teachhow to solve the problem.

Dnyandeep will be using this method for teaching Python. The problem and solution will be given and student has to submit solution script considering all constraints and protecting input as desired.

Python training has goal of creating confidence in student to use this language to solve problems, to understand the syntax, coding style, library resources, modular framework etc. All these will have to be assimilated by student in stages by self study and search of information as needed for the problem.

This is new experiment. We expect good response for this minimum and tail end assistance based teaching system. We hope that students auditing this course will be capable of working as free lancers if do not get job to their expectations.

I am auditing Python courses fro Stanford and other reputed institutes in USA without expectation of certificate. I plan to transfer this knowledge to teachers.

Dnyandeep will issue certificate of course completion but it may not have market value for job. Student's project will be the only asset
