Marathi Numbers are slowly being replaced by roman numbers. One important reason for such change has been use of calculators and computers which facilitate arithmetic calculations. We should do special efforts to preserve and enhance their use by developing suitable programs for their machine computation capability.
We cannot use Marathi numbers in place of Roman numbers However Marathi numbers need to be remembered as all Marathi literature uses these numbers. Moreover, these numbers are easy to remember and give a grace and homogeneousness to Marathi writing.
Shapes of Marathi Numbers
If you compare the numbers from ० to ९ you will find that number ८ does not have a knot and is easy to remember as a shape of nose in human face.
Number ० is just a shape of circle.
Number १ has artistic shape in typescript but while writing it is written in a simple style.
Numbers १ and ९ as well as ३ and ६ are mirror images of each other.
Number ४ shape is identical to flying bird.
Number २ matches with character र.
Number ६ is used in character घ .
Number ७ is used in character ढ .
Character छ cha is combination numbers ६ and ७.
Shape of २ is used in इ ई and झ characters.
Shape ९ is used in छ cha Shape of ५ is used in characters द and क्ष.
