FINIX - Translation of Marathi poem

Four suicide attacks of terrorists on Twin Towers of World Trade Center and other buildings on Sept. 11, 2001 gave a shock to the entire world. Those towers collapsed within 2 hours like sudden falling of giant tree. This incidence gave inspiration to my wife, Sou. Shubhangi to compose a nice metaphorical Marathi Poem “Finix” which was written on the following day. She imagined the incidence as an attack of ferocious vultures on a tall tree. She expressed her wish that a Finix bird with take birth through the ashes of destruction and will punish the culprits on some day.

As that chapter is finally closed, I take opportunity to translate the poem in English for non-Marathi readers. Please forgive me for any drawbacks from poetic quality of translation.

You are welcome to suggest changes in words and phrases.

FINIX

There stood a big tall tree
amidst a group of trees

As if it was the base pillar
supporting the earth floor

Its roots had gone deep in the ground
and had spread far and wide

There were innumerable leaves
And lot many fruits and flowers

It had a broad base platform
like a glamor of a king in the forest

Many birds flocked to the tree everyday
Some of them stayed as well there for rest.

Their cluttering noises filled and sounded
through the branches of the tree.

There was no discord between any of them
And together they lived happily there

But the day was born
Bringing an unknown future for the birds.

Soft wind was blowing in the pleasant morning
The tall tree was swaying slowly with it

It forgot the threat it received
Which had come in the past

Every thing shuddered in a moment
No body could follow what had happened

One big vulture came flying straight
And dashed against the tree tearing it apart

It had an enormous force
And poisonous stings

The tree collapsed down to the ground
crushing many birds under its branches

Dust rose to the skies
Spreading the news in the world like light

Those vultures two to four in number
Did similar destruction here and there

World will never forgive these vultures
And one day or other shall punish them sure

Let the time pass for a while
Even if the tree has turned into ashes

Finix bird will take birth from the same ash
And it will destroy such vultures
Still hovering anywhere in the world.

The world will be freed from such threats
forever by that mighty Finix bird.
