Today the growing cities are facing many problems either due to improper planning, lack of strict implementation of rules or paucity of funds to build infrastructural facilities leading the urban life to insecure, unhealthy and full of hardship. Every citizen thinks that some day his city would become livable, eco friendly and lovable. But his dreams seem to be fast disappearing. As engineers, architects and administrators can we do something which will convert that dream into concrete reality?
It is necessary that civic authorities of all municipalities to take part in this workshop and present their problems and methodology of solution they have adopted. As the topic deals with urban environment, experts from various fields like environment, town planning, architecture, engineering and finance need to contribute in tackling this complex problem. People action groups and NGOs should create pressure for speedy implementation of development plans and financial institutions should come forward to support them.

A portal website www.greencityportal.com is launched by the foundation for focusing environmental issues in city planning and for promotion of architects and builders of green real estates. It would include all aspects of green city planning and assist civil administration in integrated environmental management. The website shall display advertisements of green products and technologies. Architects and builders can display their company profile and projects. It will also provide a platform for all concerned agencies to share articles, views and other information with experts, civic authorities and the general public.
