Renaming
of Facebook to Meta indicates urgency in attracting more customers with

Death of Dinosaurs
Dinosaurs
roamed the earth for 160 million years. But they got destroyed some
65.5 million years ago. There is a mystery about the exact cause of
their extinction. Some believe that the extinction was due to a single
catastrophic event of supernova radiation on earth or as an effect of
striking of some asteroid.
One early theory was that small mammals ate dinosaur eggs, thereby reducing the dinosaur population until it became unsustainable. Another theory was that dinosaurs’ bodies became too big to be operated by their small brains.
Considering the growth of large corporate and MNCs who are dominating almost all business in the entire world, I am tempted to compare them with Dinosaurs. These corporate have grown big by destroying local small businesses through their capacity to monopolize the consumer market using huge capital, big infrastructure and large workforce. This is more so in the Information technology and practically small software firms just cannot fight with these giants. They are struggling to get some small local customized jobs for their survival but are always under the threat of retrenchment of their skilled personnel due to hefty offers from bigwigs.
The development of mobile devices and cloud services however, have changed the scenario. Now it is not necessary to have to have large computer hardware or to own costly proprietary operating systems and software tools for undertaking software development projects of any size. Hence small groups and individuals also can undertake projects of any size.
Evolution of Freelance Service Agencies like Elance, O-Desk, Guru, Freelancer, worknhire etc have played a great role in providing a platform for such groups and individuals to get work with fare competition.
The theory of small mammals eating dinosaur eggs, or small brains with big bodies of dinosaurs as the cause of their extinction may become applicable to Big IT companies as the individual freelancers and small groups may provide efficient, more innovative and economical solutions to problems which are generally awarded to big companies.
